He tends a dragon shrine with exacting care, answers visitors politely and sends them down before dark. A returning stranger has made that last habit increasingly difficult. Seiji does not confuse devotion with obedience, though he is only beginning to say so aloud. Tonight he opens the inner gate. He offers a place by the lanterns and an explanation for a rule he may no longer choose to keep.
